"Learn" button now available for phrases and dialogues!

I am extremely pleased to announce that the "Learn" button is now available for phrases and dialogues!

Multi-choice answers now all match correct answer length

I have tweeked Lingopolo so that now multi-choice possible answers are all same length. Previously there was the rather silly situation that the correct answer might be a single word, and yet the possible answers might include an extremely long phrase. No more! Now, if the answer is one word, the possible answers will all be one word. If the correct answer has, say three words, then all the answers suggested will contain three words. This means that the multi-choice experience is a lot more sensible. And a little bit trickier!

Lingopolo French now has over 4000 recordings!

I am pleased to announce that Lingopolo French now has over 4000 recordings!

Below is a screenshot taken at the time of writing, but do check out the French Statistics page for the most recent values.

Learn! Learn! Learn!

The "Learn" button for individual words is now available everywhere!

As well as on the page for individual words and next to the words in the literal breakdown (see my blog post "The new Learn button for words"), you will now find the Learn button next to the words in the Dictionary, next to words in the recent additions list and next to the words in each lesson.

"Understand spoken Thai" tag line

I have changed the Lingopolo tagline to "Understand spoken Thai":

 understand spoken Thai

This is simpler than the old tagline (which was "Learn Thai through listening-based learning"), and it also focuses more on the Lingopolo benefit that you learn to understand spoken Thai, rather than on the method, that it is through listening-based learning.

The old header was as follows:

Improved "quiz results" page

I'm very pleased to announce the addition of an improved "quiz results" page.

There are two very helpful additions:

  1. the "Recording" column. With this, you can of course listen again to the word(s) you got wrong.
  2. the "Learn" button, where available. Not every word or phrase currently has a "Learn" button, but many do. Where this exists, it will take you directly to a lesson to learn the word in context.

I hope these little additions help you to focus on the words you are currently struggling with.

The new "Learn" button for words

I'm extremely pleased to announce the launch of the "Learn" button. This is a wonderful addition (I think), which allows you to go directly into the in context lesson to learn a particular word. If you don't know what an in context lesson is, then have a look at my recent blog post about the new in context lessons.

In context lessons

I am pleased to announce the introduction of a new type of lesson called the "in context" lesson. Basically the "In context" lesson will teach you:

  • the single word (e.g. "dog")
  • all of the examples which use that word (e.g. "the dog and the elephant")
  • all of the vocabulary you need to understand the example sentences (e.g. "and", "elephant")

This is wonderful, because it enables you to effectively practise a single word.

I recommend the recommended lesson

The "Recommended lesson" at the top of the online lessons page is now definitely recommended:

Lingopolo now works on Android!

I'm pleased to announce that now Lingopolo will now work on Android.

Well, recent versions of Android at least. I have a Samsung Galaxy SIII from June 2013 (which is less than 2 years ago at the time of writing), and that is stuck on Android version 4.1.2, and Lingopolo will not work on this very old version of Android. Shame.

Lingopolo has however been succesfully tested on Khru Goi's Samsung Note 8 running Android 4.4, and it works!

Happy Lingopolo on-the-go Thai learning to all you Android users.
