Spelling reforms

Submitted by admin on 31 May 2016

After internal discussions among the French speaking content editors (Fabien, Sandrine) and myself (Hugh) it was decided that Lingopolo should consistently implement the French spelling reforms.

Adding a note

Each word which is affected should also have a note added to make the change explicit.

The format for the note is as in the following example, from dinette:

This word was traditionally spelt "dînette" with a circumflex accent over the letter i. This changed on February 3rd 2016, when it was announced that spelling reforms, first proposed in 1990, would be implemented from the 2016 school year. See Reforms of French orthography on Wikipedia

Each note should follow this format, containing the following elements and no more:

  • A phrase showing the original spelling, and highlighting the difference (since it may be visually small, such as a circumflex).
  • The standard sentence describing when the changes occured.
  • A link to the relevant Wikipedia page, so that those who wish to read more can do so.
