This word is used rather like we use tag questions in English. For example, in English we would say "You're going to town, aren't you?" or "Your car is blue, isn't it?". In these cases, the person asking the question thinks they know the answer, and are simply confirming that the answer is what they expect. This Thai word functions in a similar way, indicating a question, with the statement indicating what the expected answer to the question is.
